One of the keys to our strategy is the fight against global warming. Since 2006, we have plans to reduce energy and carbon intensity, based on improving efficiency. Between 2006 and 2018, we have reduced our emissions by 4.9 million tons of CO2 equivalent. In 2018 alone emissions decreased by 309,800 tons.
Furthermore, we have approved a new plan for the 2018-2025 period, with an even more ambitious goal: to reduce emissions by three million tons of equivalent CO2 per annum.
At Repsol, we have been engaging in projects to optimize processes, improve the energy integration of units and achieve optimal operation at our facilities for years. In addition, we are committed to initiatives that reduce methane emissions and routine flaring.
We also promote carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) technology and we are part of the Oil & Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), which is investing over 1 billion dollars in speeding up the deployment of innovative technologies to mitigate climate change
