In 2018, the Repsol refining margin indicator in Spain was 6.7 dollars per barrel, similar to that obtained in 2017. In November, our company opened the new gasoline desulfurization units at La Pampilla refinery in Peru.
With the commissioning of these units, the 741-million-dollar investment process undertaken by the company to produce fuels (gasoline and diesel) with a low sulfur content was completed, and higher-quality and more environmentally sustainable products. In the Refining unit, the installed distillation capacity is 117,000 barrels of oil per day.
Our assets in Spain include five refineries (Cartagena, A Coruña, Petronor, Puertollano and Tarragona), with a total distillation capacity of 896,000 barrels per day. We have one of the most efficient refining systems in Europe thanks to our investments over the last few years; our system enables us to generate products with higher value and lower carbon intensity.
Furthermore, we are prepared to produce lowsulfur marine fuel, in line with the reduction in the specification approved by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which will enter into force on January 1st, 2020.
