At Repsol, we seek to be a part of the solution to climate change. That is why we have been working on reducing our emissions for years. Since 2006, we have been implementing plans to reduce our energy and carbon intensity, based on improving the efficiency of our operations and facilities.
The aim of the 2014-2020 plan was to reduce emissions by 2.1 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent. During the five first years, we have already cut down emissions by 1.78 million metric tons, which constitutes 85% of the objective set for the entire period. In 2018 alone, we prevented the emission of 309,800 metric tons of CO2.
As proof of our firm commitment to the fight against climate change, Repsol has come up with a new plan for the 2018-2025 period that has an even more ambitious emissions reduction objective: 3 million metric tons of CO2.
Repsol’s first energy and carbon plan dates back to 2006. Since then, subsequent plans have enabled us to reduce our emissions by 4.9 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent.
Improved energy efficiency, greater use of natural gas, carbon pricing, developing carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) technology, and committing to low-emissions businesses are all key parts of our Company’s climate change strategy.
